If you call me on the phone

I’m not ignoring you if I don’t answer. Here’s the thing, I’m busy (aren’t we all, I know). Phone calls & emails are interruptions. That’s why I’m no longer living in my inbox. It’s too disruptive.

If its a number I don’t recognise (i.e. its not an existing client of mine), I won’t answer it. If that enquiry is genuine, then whoever is calling will leave a voicemail.

“But you might miss out on an opportunity?!”

That’s ok. I’m just fine with that. As I said before, I’m busy. I’m fortunate enough to have a great client base, & I want to make sure I provide those clients with excellent support. I don’t need any more clients at the time of this writing.

I don’t want to grow my business unsustainably. I’m not interested in a sign written car, or a fancy office, or having staff. How much of anything do we really need? Look at what unconstrained capitalism has done to our planet.

But I digress.

I know how fortunate I am to be busy, & I’m aware that could change. If it does, then I might answer the unknown call more often.

It’s also why I’m about to debut a Priority Support channel, so I can provide that excellent support to those clients who desire it.

How I like to work

I like to be able to refer to things (in writing). That’s how I assign tasks to project/task management software, prioritise those tasks & get them done. It’s also how I confirm with you that those tasks are complete. That can either be via email or Trello (mostly). This way, everything is time-stamped, indexed & searchable, & can be referred back to in the future.

You can’t do any of that on a phone call.

Sometimes though, phone calls are the quickest way to get to the bottom of a problem. I appreciate that, which is why I do answer my phone (when I can).

Honestly, though, if you are a client of mine & you do call, & I don’t answer – it is not because I don’t want to talk to you. It’s more than likely because I’m right in the middle of something that requires my full attention, or I’m (heaven forbid) in a meeting.
